How to Organize Lighting in the Workplace

Illumination with traditional lamps

When it comes to choosing lighting fixtures in the workplace, a table lamp will undoubtedly be the first on the list. A table lamp that has gone through many transformations over its long life can provide both point and area-scattered light.

The floor lamp has the same functionality as in the photo above if you place it next to the table. These two types of traditional lighting fixtures can be roughly divided into two categories. One of them uses classic sockets for incandescent bulbs or energy-saving LED bulbs. The other is equipped with modern LED lamps. They are very bright and consume little power.

Lamps with classic sockets come with several types of bases. A less popular type is the G23. Fluorescent lamps are installed in it. The most common type of E27. It is designed for a standard cartridge. Often, table lamps come without a bulb in the kit: we are given the opportunity to choose the type and power of the lamp to our taste.

Having decided on the main criteria, we have to choose the appearance of the lamp, its power supply (wire, USB, or battery), and the type of control. Instead of standard buttons, many devices offer touch controls.

Table lighting

Those who are not satisfied with standard table lamps can use table lighting. Lighting will allow a banal table to play in a new way: in a slightly subdued ambient light, it will create a “floating” effect. Also, the backlight will not be superfluous for stream lovers, it will add its share of showiness. It is quite simple to make a table light. There are ready-made kits on sale that include an LED strip, a controller, a power supply, and a control panel. Typically, there is an adhesive backing on the back of the tape that allows you to quickly and easily attach it to your desk. It remains to consistently connect the tape to the controller, and the controller to the power supply. The only caveat is the length of the power cord. In budget solutions, the cord is short and the placement of the tape should be planned in advance before gluing it. The backlight is regulated using a miniature remote control. You can set colors, effects, or adjust brightness. If you have completely finished the desired area, but you still have excess tape, this is not a problem. It is enough to cut off the excess part in specially designated places. They are usually marked with a scissors icon and a dotted line. Cutting off in other places is not worth it: this will turn off the group of diodes.

On sale, you can find a large number of different types. In addition to the clear division by length and color, there is a parameter “number of LEDs per meter” – the higher the density, the brighter the light.

It is also worth paying attention to the parameter “glow intensity of one meter.” Along with the previous one, it determines the overall brightness of the tape. Some tapes may not come with a power supply and controller. In this case, they must be purchased separately.

The backlight of the monitor

Another way to brighten up your desktop space is with a backlight behind your monitor. Many have known about it for more than a year, thanks to the LEDs built into some TV models.

The essence of such a backlight is to dynamically change the background after the screen. You can set static colors and customize various effects. If your monitor model does not have backlighting, you can implement it in the following ways: assemble it yourself or install a ready-made solution.

To assemble it yourself, you will need an LED strip of the required length, a power supply unit, and a microcomputer, as well as various consumables – heat-shrinkable tubes, corners, etc. For an unprepared user who is “you” with technology, this can be a difficult task.

If you still decide to devote a couple of evenings to this lesson, then the network has many different options for implementing the backlight. It is important to correctly select the voltage of the power supply according to the number of LEDs. The main advantage of this method is cost-effectiveness. The individual components are very inexpensive.

Let’s move on to ready-made solutions. They are noticeably more expensive, but they allow us to customize the screen background in just a couple of steps. Let’s take a look at one of the most popular branded devices – NZXT HUE 2 Ambient V2. The set includes eight LED strips, a power supply, and an external adapter. After unpacking, all we have to do is stick on the tapes, connect the adapter, and plug it into an outlet. Thanks to the adapter, there are no hanging wires in the back and the system looks neater.

All that remains is to download the appropriate software and adjust the backlight to your liking. Such an implementation is characteristic of other ready-made solutions: for the most part, they differ only in the type of adapter and the program for adjusting the lighting.

Don’t forget about all sorts of backlit devices. In addition to the already familiar internal components of a PC, you can also highlight peripherals – a keyboard, mouse, headphones, and even a pad for a manipulator, creating a truly bright and individual place at home.

You can read about how to choose the right peripherals with backlight in the article, where this topic is disclosed in more detail.

You can also mention the simplest and even banal, but also the most economical option – to use the New Year’s garlands familiar from childhood. In the cold season, they not only create the appropriate lighting design but also give a good mood.
